District Open ends in Sudden-Death Playoff
After a thrilling finish on Sunday evening, the TBDGA is pleased to announce Jamie DePiero (Whitewater GC) as the champion of the 2022 AON District Open - his first major victory. Jamie defeated Evan DeGrazia (Chapples GC) on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to take the title. Both players shot identical scores of 71-74 over the weekend. The first round was played at Fort William CC, while the final round and playoff were contested at Whitewater GC.
"It's pretty amazing," said Jamie. "There's a lot of history (on the Styffe Memorial Trophy), so to have my name on it now is pretty special. It's awesome. It feels really good."
Jamie and Evan were followed by Jeremy Kirk (Fort William CC) in third and Walter Keating (Whitewater GC) in fourth.
In the second flight, sixteen-year-old Nathan Lepore (Whitewater GC) won by five strokes over Jeff Hunter (Whitewater GC). Ed Atwill (Whitewater GC) was next in third, while Evan Merlo (Strathcona GC), Sam Orr (Fort William CC), and Mike Satten (Chapples GC) finished in a three-way tie for fourth.
In the third flight, Richard Crupi (Whitewater GC) won by four strokes over Matthew Lysak (Whitewater GC). Notably, Matthew opened the tournament with a front-nine score of 30 at Fort William CC. Rick Desmoulin Jr (Kenogamisis GC) followed in third and Frank Conci (Strathcona GC) finished fourth.
In the fourth flight, Jaden Jones (Whitewater GC) won by five strokes over Bryan Burgess (Strathcona GC), while Andy Karanasos (Whitewater GC) and Brett Otway (Whitewater GC) shared third.
