Kirk and Carr Take Home Team Title

Congratulations to Jeremy Kirk (Fort William CC) and Conor Carr (Whitewater GC) for winning the 2022 Mallon's Play It Again Sports District Better-Ball Championship. The pair shot 65-64 over the weekend to win by four strokes. Entering the final round at Strathcona GC, Jeremy and Conor trailed three other teams by one stroke, but a back-nine score of 30 proved to be the difference. In total, the winning pair made nine birdies on Sunday, including on seven of their last eleven holes. Jeremy and Conor have also qualified for the 2022 Ontario Men's Better-Ball Championship set to be played in early October at Oakdale Golf and Country Club - the host of the 2023 and 2026 Canadian Open.

With the win, Jeremy becomes just the fifith player in history to hold the District Better-Ball, Open, and Amateur trophies at the same time. He joins Don Stokaluk (1976-77), Trevor Jones (1985), Peter Lovis (1993-94), and Barry Caland (2008-09) as the only players to accomplish this feat.

In the second flight, Jeff Hunter & Graeme McCormack (Whitewater GC) shot a final-round 66 to catch and tie Matthew Chiasson (Tarandowah GC) & Hayden Hickey (Fort William CC). Both teams finished the event at 133 and in second place on the overall leaderboard.

In the third flight, first-round co-leaders Robert Cumming & Dave Joubert (Strathcona GC) won by four strokes over the junior duo of Dallas Burgess & Nathan Lepore (Whitewater GC), as well as the event's 2017 champions, Hank & Scott Wilke (Strathcona GC).

In the fourth flight, a stellar final-round score of 68 allowed Drew Childs & Aaron Lagadin (Strathcona GC) to leap-frog Richard Crupi & Cory Pharand (Whitewater GC) and win by one stroke. A two-shot swing on the sixteenth hole proved to be the difference.

In the fifth flight, Dave & Trent Childs (Strathcona GC) claimed a one-stroke victory over last year's fourth flight champions, JR Williamson & Kaz Kushner (Whitewater GC). Rounding out the top three was Zach Grzelewski & Matthew Mustapic (Whitewater GC), who were making their first appearance as a team.
