Kirk crowned District Amateur Champion in Playoff

Fifty-four holes were not enough to crown the 2021 Teleco District Amateur champion, as Jeremy Kirk and Kevin Ariano were forced to play-off for the title. In the end, it was Jeremy who claimed victory. Jeremy began the final round in a tie for eleventh place – six shots back of the 36-hole leader – but shot a final-round 70 in difficult conditions to climb up the leaderboard. At the end of regulation play, Jeremy and Kevin were tied at 216. Jeremy ultimately took the title after sinking a 10 ft putt on the second playoff hole. Jack Moro finished in third at 217.

With the win, Jeremy qualifies for the 100th Ontario Men's Amateur Championship, which will be played at the Scarboro Golf and Country Club from July 12-15, 2022. He also becomes just the fifth player in history to win both the District Amateur and District Open in the same year.

In the second flight, fifteen-year-old Nathan Lepore (226) defeated Cody Bruchkowski by two strokes and Conor Carr by four strokes. In the third flight, Gary Dunville (225) edged Scott Wilke by one stroke and the 2011 District Amateur champion, Ed Atwill, by two strokes. John Shaw (229) claimed the fourth flight, while Hank Wilke (232) finished in second place. In the fifth flight, Jack Palmer (237) won by a "mere" twelve strokes. Jack was the 1973 District Amateur champion. Andy Karanasos (247) led wire-to-wire to take home the sixth flight title. His closest competitor was John DeGrazia, finishing four strokes back.
