Lepore, Hickey win Provincial Qualifiers
First-time qualifiers are now set for both the 2023 Ontario Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships. Congratulations to Nathan Lepore (Whitewater GC) and Hayden Hickey (Fort William CC).
Nathan has qualified for the 101st Ontario Men's Amateur Championship, which will be played on June 26-29, 2023 at Black Bear Ridge Golf Resort near Belleville, Ontario. Nathan's score of 75 was good enough for a two-shot victory. At the turn, Nathan found himself four strokes back of the lead. However, a stellar back-nine allowed Nathan to claw back into contention as players battled the wind, rain, and a near seventy-five-minute weather delay. A birdie on the final hole secured his victory. Nathan now joins Jeremy Kirk (Fort William CC) at this year's provincial championship.
Hayden has qualified for the Ontario Men's Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be played on June 20-22, 2023 at the Burlington Golf & Country Club. Hayden never looked back after making birdie on the opening hole. At the turn, Hayden led the Mid-Amateur Division by six strokes. Scott Wilke (Strathcona GC) finished in second place. The Mid-Amateur Division is open to golfers aged twenty-five and older.
Thank you to Half-Way Motors for sponsoring both provincial qualifiers.
