Moro, Lepore Blitz Better-Ball Field
Congratulations to Jack Moro & Nathan Lepore (Centennial Pines GC) for winning the 2024 Mallon’s Play It Again Sports District Better-Ball Championship. The pair shot 65-65 over the weekend, winning by five strokes.
Entering the final round tied with two other teams, Jack & Nathan secured their victory with a bogey-free 65 at Strathcona GC. In the final round, they made five birdies and one eagle, with Jack holing out from sixty yards on the par-4 sixth hole for an eagle-2. Jason Johnstone (Fort William CC) & Garath Payne (Northern Lights GC) finished in second place, moving from eighth to second with a final round 67.
With this win, Jack and Nathan have earned an exemption into the 2024 Ontario Men’s Better-Ball Championship, scheduled for October at Oakdale Golf & Country Club.
In the second flight, Sam Orr & Jordan Potter (Fort William CC) claimed a one-shot victory with back-to-back 69s, narrowly defeating Landon Maunula (Whitewater GC) & Jake Cryderman (Chapples GC), and Matthew Cho-Chu & Josh Kitt (Fort William CC). Sam and Jordan played there final eight holes on Sunday in five strokes under par.
In the third flight, the father and son duo of Ryan & Jari Pietila (Strathcona GC) won by one stroke over Jason Humphrey & Daniel Anttilla (Strathcona GC). Scott Myles & Steve Polesky (Aguasabon GC) rounded out the top three.
In the fourth flight, Tyson & Hunter (Fort William CC) delivered a stellar performance, winning by one shot over Grant Lilley & Jason Cooper (Fort William CC). The Geraldton-based team of Ricky & Trevor Desmoulin (Kenogamsis GC) finished third with a final round 71, the lowest score in their flight over the weekend.
