The Hunters Hunt Down Better-Ball Title
Congratulations to Jeff & Colin Hunter (Whitewater GC) for winning the 2023 Mallon's Play It Again Sports District Better-Ball Championship. The pair shot 67-64 over the weekend to win by two strokes over Jeremy Kirk & Conor Carr (Fort William CC), Jack Moro & Nathan Lepore (Whitewater GC), and Scott Myles & Steve Polesky (Aguasabon GC).
The Hunters entered the final round in a tie for seventh place, but a back-nine score of 30 propelled them to victory. In total, the Hunters made an eagle and five birdies on their final nine holes.
With the win, the Hunters have earned an exemption into the 2023 Ontario Men's Better-Ball Championship set to be played in October at Oakdale Golf & Country Club – the host of this year's RBC Canadian Open.
In the first flight, Jeremy Kirk & Conor Carr (Fort William CC) shot a final-round 66 to catch and tie Jack Moro & Nathan Lepore (Whitewater GC). Both teams finished the event at 133 and in a tie for second place overall. Jamie DePiero & Nathan Mercier (Public Players) finished in third, while Walter Keating & Ed Atwill (Whitewater GC) rounded out the top four.

In the third flight, the Hunters were followed by Scott Myles & Steve Polesky (Aguasabon GC) in second and Samuel Orr & Bryce Foster (Fort William CC) in third. Sam and Bryce were also the first round co-leaders.
In the fourth flight, Brett Otway & Jason Wright (Public Players) claimed a two-stroke victory over Rob Mallon & Dan Kukko (Strathcona GC). Jake O'Neill & Trevor Deleo (Chapples GC) followed in third, while Ethan Kubinec & Ryan Fieldhouse (Fort William CC) rounded out the top four.
